Yup…been M.I.A for the last couple weeks…but hey, no one is perfect and sometimes life just gets in the way.
This week’s theme for Project 52 is: Simple
Be content with what you have, rejoice in the way things are. When you realize there is nothing lacking, the whole world belongs to you. – Lao Tz

Nothing is more simple than love. And nothing is more powerful than the love of a mother…its simple, and pure.
Please check out Stephanie Catt, Catt & Co. Photography – http://www.cattandco.com/2012/05/project-52-week-17-simple.html to see her take on “Simple”.
Theme this week is: Pastel
It has been sooo nice outside this spring that I decided to break out the sidewalk chalk for my boys. Not sure if this really fits into the “pastel” theme, but I went with it anyways. Also…I have been slacking in Project 52 from week to week…the themes are so awesome and I often struggle with wanting to do the theme justice. I also worry about viewer boredom (all 3 of you), and will you get tired of seeing my kids? However, I came to terms with that this week…this is what I do. I am a Mom and a photographer, so my kids are my subjects. This is my life…fun, crazy, odd, chaotic, messy… life with my kids.
Take note, that my little Sam is obsessed with Pajamas. He refuses to actually wear them to bed, but wants to wear them during the day. To school. To play in. To the grocery. This night he wanted to wear fleecey P.Js while outside in 80degrees doing sidewalk chalk. Go for it kiddo! Whatever floats your boat.
On the other end of the spectrum, my Nathan, wanted to do sidewalk chalk in his t-shirt and underwear. Okie Dokie…go for it.

We went to Costco this week with all three kids (an outing we sometimes do as a family to “give us something to do”). Right inside the entrance they had bins and bins and bins of kids underwear and pajamas…we got suckered into getting both boys underwear (come on, a 12 pack of underwear for $4??? you cannot beat that!!!). The boys were happy…we did our shopping…and were on our way to stand in the mile long check out line, when my oldest son saw a shark! A SHARK TOWEL! Oh boy, did those underwear go out the window when he was given the choice. He wanted that shark towel. Then my youngest son saw the Dinosaur towel (actually I think its a dragon, but he is way into dinos at the moment so why burst his bubble?). Again, the towel HAD to come home with us.
They slept with the towels that night…
Oh…the theme for Project 52, week 11 is: Laughter. These towels made my two boys laugh and giggle and be goofy.
BEST. SOUND. EVER!

World, meet Lucy. Lucy, welcome to the world.
I am a photographer. I eat, sleep, and breathe photography. Its what I think about: how to improve, lighting, needing things (equipment, props, etc), the KIND of photography that makes my soul sing…it is constant. Photography, is always there. Someone recently challenged me with the question “What is your ‘out’ plan?” ”What is your plan for “quitting” photography?” Without hesitation, I said “I dont have an out plan. I will never stop taking pictures…so quitting photography is not even an option.” And I meant it.
Nothing makes my heart sing more than an image that makes me yearn to hire a photographer and replicate the image. For myself. I am honestly so proud of the below images…because they do just that. I soooo wish I could hire myself to capture these sweet moments between mother and daughter, mother and son and daughter, and grandmother and grandkids. These make my soul sing…I hope they do yours.
Happy Spring!!!

Okay, Okay, Okay…so I missed last week! Strep throat and just a totally crazy week for some reason…and whalah…I miss a week. :( Eh, things happen…lets move on.
This week. Week 9. Topic is: Up Close
How I SOOO wish I had a macro lens for this one! Oh goodness, the little eyelashes I could capture. The baby toes…the peach fuzzy hair. ALL up close. Ohh Macro, someday!
The other day, my five year old rediscovered the Legos he had gotten for Christmas. He spent ALL afternoon and evening working with them. What was really significant about this time with Legos was that he started understanding and being able to “read” the directions…which is awesome in and of itself, but even more so because it means that I don’t have to sit and put them together for him (over and over and over when they break). I love these hands. I remember them so distinctly when he was born. They were the first things that I commented on to my mother.
“Mom! His hands look just like Dad’s!
They still do…

…Get ‘em while they are hot (and available!). :)

What does one do when the topic for the week is “ruffles”, and you have a 6 month old girl just waiting to help out with the topic at hand? You spend some time at a photographer friends amazing studio, hijack her props…and snap away!
Week 7 in our Project 52 journey is: Ruffles.
Ruffles it is:

A very special thanks goes to my amazing and sweet friend, Amanda, for letting me use her studio, her props and share her company.
Now…as always…do yourself a HUGE favor, take a break from Facebook and Pinterest, and go check out Karen Porter out of Austin, Texas to see her take on RUFFLES!

Ok. I am not going to lie. This weeks challenge pretty much baffled me (there seems to be a trend here. I am baffled with every week’s challenge!). Project 52 Week 6 is: COLD. Cold. Cold. Fitting, since it IS winter. However, Winter seems to be going through an identity crisis here in Louisville. ALL the previous winters that I have been here have been bitter, freezing, completely unbearable for this Arizona Girl. In fact, all previous winters, right around this time, you would have found me begging the Hubs to “please lets move! I cannot stand one more winter in this place! PLEAASSE LETS MOVE!!!”. Ironically, this winter, the winter that I decided to actually get prepared for the cold (got myself a nice winter coat…WARM…some boots, socks, etc…), is the winter that it hasnt dipped below 50degrees except for a handful of times. Now, I am not complaining by any means…I AM waiting for the ball to drop so to speak (snow for the Kentucky Derby anyone?)…but I am not complaining! So…this weekend it “snowed” a little of the white stuff…

Check out Elaine Melko, Chicago Photographer: http://melkophoto.com/blog/?p=218 for her take on COLD!
The topic this week is: PINK. How fitting…I know pink…now. If you were to ask me a year ago, I would have had a hard time trying to find anything in our daily lives that was pink. Two boys…everything is a primary color! Cut to a year later…and a 6 month old baby girl, and we all now know pink! VERY WELL! We have pink socks, pink bows, pink bumper, pink pants, pink blankets, pink…pink…pink.
So it is only fitting that when the topic of “pink” comes up…I decide to throw all that obvious pink aside and take a picture of one of my favorite yummy treats that is pink (why can’t I just take a picture of the obvious?), ICE CREAM! Haha…doesn’t make ANY sense, I know, alas, it is now Tuesday evening, and I was down to the wire this afternoon. So…the bowl of yummy goodness just spoke to me. Its a treat I enjoy, too often, and more often than not, with chocolate dripping down the sides. YUM!!!

Go check out Elaine Melko – Chicago http://melkophoto.com/blog/?p=200 for her take on PINK!
I have found myself getting so excited every week to find out what the new subject is, and this week was no exception. The subject this week in the Project 52 Challenge is “Emotion”. Yeah! EMOTION! I have PLENTY of that!!!! In fact, I probably have an over abundance of emotion that if, at any time, anyone needs some…please give me a shout. I would be happy to share!
The challenge became how to how to actually capture “my take” on “emotion”. That was where I got stuck. That is where I ALWAYS get stuck…trying to capture, through the lens, how I see things/life/emotion. I feel as if my “capture” is always sooo boring and normal. I really wanted this weeks challenge to be an awesome display of creativity that other photographers would ooooh and awwwww at and would Pin it on Pinterest for everyone else to oooh and aww at. I found myself trying to shoot to suit others, instead of myself. So, I stepped back. Took the kids to the park (hello 60degrees in JANUARY, feel free to stick around all the way until Mr. Summer wants to arrive!), with bikes and friends…and my camera…and vowed to just let the emotion happen. As the afternoon playdate was drawing to a close I had a vision of the four boys, on a bench, showing ME emotions. These images aren’t AH-MAZING, technically nor creatively. However, they are captured, for me, and for me alone…challenge within the challenge. I LOVE Project 52!

Now do yourself a HUGE favor and go see everyone else’s emotions…:) Start by hitting up:
